Theodore Roosevelt runs an exhausting whistle-stop campaign for the presidency in 1912. In Milwaukee, in an open automobile, he narrowly escapes death when an assassin’s bullet is slowed by his glass case and the thick, folded pages of a speech. He delivers his speech to the astonished crowd in spite of his wound.
